UNTERREISE
site-specific performance, length variable, ca. 45-60 minutes
Unterreise is a site-specific performance/music project created with selected songs of Franz Schubert. The core of this piece lies in solitude and its reflection.
Premiere took place in the old heating hall of Faculty of Architecture at the Slovak Technical University in Bratislava, designed by Emil Belluš in 1940s. This raw industrial site with hall-like characteristics turned into a stage of an inner journey, shared with the visitors of the performance, with the performer moving and interacting with them.
Scenography utilises available light and digital visuals. Original song texts are projected during the performance as analogue slides and the manual change of the slide works as a kind of a chapter marker.
Translations of the German text into language respective to the place of performance are projected as well. Premiere featured original translations of the lyrics into Slovak made by Denkzeug members.
Within this repertoire and its always slightly different performance, an interesting process happens: the space tends to gain almost a post-romantic twist, the music selection, on the other hand, tends to become less and less romantic.
