Pressburg

PRESSBURG
2012 onwards / analogue prints

This city is a foreign city to us. / This sentence comes from a book about Bratislava addressed to Carpathian Germans which were forced to abandon Bratislava after WWII. If we walk through the city and observe the way it looks and (mal)functions, any of the communities residing there today could claim this sentence to be their statement as well.

However, we would like to keep our memories of the beautiful old city of Pressburg alive. / With photographs I'm mapping the public space as stage of memory. Functions of the given space as well as material interventions (statues, memorials) testify about ruptures of past 100 years and the resulting amnesia.
